Busking for Change: Amanda teams up with War Child
On Tuesday, March 2nd, Amanda joins Montreal’s celebrated artists in the Busking for Change event. What is Busking for CHANGE? It’s a way for musicians to raise money and awareness for War Child Canada, a charity that provides assistance to children and families affected by war.
If you are in Montreal, you can catch Amanda in the Eaton Centre, accompanied by volunteers who will be collecting money and giving out information about War Child. Amanda’s Eaton Center Busking times: 5pm Street Level and 6pm Metro level.
If you cannot make it on March 2, you can tune in to CBC’s HOME RUN who will be interviewing Amanda at 4:45pm, or to CJAD who will be interviewing Amanda at 5:40pm. If you would like to help Amanda raise funds, you can by donating online.
Money collected online and at the live event will support War Child, who provide humanitarian assistance to over 200,000 children and families affected by war each year.
Please help Amanda help War Child provide these children with the means to build a brighter future. Also look for other Montreal musicians busking in the Place-des-Arts and Berri-Uquam metro stations and in the Eaton Centre. Every little bit helps; it all starts with small, positive actions.
Thanks for your support!
WAWA, Roots Music, Toronto, and Haiti!
Hi Everyone, my plate has been so full lately I’m feeling a little heart burn comin’ on. Nonetheless, I’m pretty happy that I am finally able to sit my ass down and write you an excruciatingly long message! There have been some really exciting things going on this month and I’d like to take you through the list of fabulous goings on locally and beyond if that’s ok? Thanks so much
THE WAWA SHOW!
As many of you already know, WAWA is an event I produce every year in the spirit of collaboration. The above photo taken by Ms Andree-Anne Handfield is a super hot testament to that. The photo features some of the performers I’ve invited to perform at WAWA; Left to Right, Break dance babe JoDee Allen, best comic ever DeAnne Smith, yours truly holding the amazing contortionist Andreane Leclerc “Mimi”, the sizzling Miss Sugarpuss and the beautiful trip hop singer Elsiane.
Creating a dialogue between artists and contributing to the strengthening of the community therein is something very close to my heart. I am so proud to bring you the 5th installment of WAWA featuring Canadian women in the Performance and Visual arts. I am very lucky to know so many talented women and thrilled to bring them all together for you on this special night. I was also really lucky to get St Ambroise as our sponsor, they are amazing to local talent. The two-night WAWA Valentine’s weekend event features a mix of established and up-and-coming artists from the worlds of pop, rock, urban, comedy, dance and more. I will be performing 3 songs at the end of the night on the 14th after all the artists I’ve invited have performed their wonderfully diverse sets.
Sunday, Feb 14th, Main Event at La Sala Rossa
featuring Amanda Mabro, Miss Sugarpuss, NLX, Elsiane, DeAnne Smith, JoDee Allen, contortionist MIMI, and many more
4848 St. Laurent, $15
In addition, I have co-produced an evening with the AMAZING DeAnne Smith that will take place on Feb 13th at the Centre St Ambroise, 5080A Saint Ambroise. This is a 100% chic - comedy event! You will laugh so hard it hurts.
You can get details for both events at www.thewawashow.com
Or the WAWA Facebook page for photos of the beautiful performers…I must sound like a madam:

ROOTS MUSIC CANADA! I was recently in Toronto for a bunch of different reasons and had the opportunity to speak with the fab Andy Frank. Check out the recent interview I did with him, where we discuss recent videos, crazy gigs and the latest EPs Red Rows and Wine Flows http://www.rootsmusic.ca/tag/amanda-mabro/
TORONTO, TORONTO, I LOVE YA, TORONTO, YOU’RE ONLY 10 DAYS AWAY!
I will be performing again at the Rivoli on Feb 17th! It will be a very short set as part of the Avant Garde Cabaret, but I hear this is always a sold out event not to be missed. So DO come on by to hear me sang and maybe we can hug after. Seriously. I’m a very emotional person. Deal with it.
HAITI BENEFIT
I have friends that have lost family and the whole thing has of course been heart breaking for so many people. I’ve been trying to figure out how to contribute in a way that is useful. The Metro grocery store near my place made stickers that say “Help Haiti” and put them on plastic containers. I was compelled to donate, but they rip me off on my fruits and veggies constantly so how can I trust they will actually give the money to the people they say they’ll give it to? So, instead I’m going through a more trustworthy outlet and will thus be performing a short set at a Haiti benefit on Feb 10th at Petit Campus.
Finally, in the online world, many of my next releases will be digital, but the thrill of owning something tangible is still kinda fun. Human beings are into tactile things are we not? Owning your own disc that comes with artwork and images doesn’t suck, which is why printed copies of Red Rows and Wine Flows will be on sale at WAWA and everywhere else I am in town. No, I do not sell them out of a trench coat as I pound the pavement. I’m referring to gigs. $10 each, or two for $15 - hoowah, now that’s a deal!
Big love to my peeps,
Amanda
Thank you Montreal!
Thank you everyone for making our Friday Nov 27th home show with Elsiane in Montreal so very magical. There were so many amazing shows happening that night, from Lady Gaga to Imogen Heap, Apostle of Hustle, The Goodlovelies, and Alex Cuba! It was a big night in Montreal for concerts. Much love to all of our fans for coming out in droves despite the rain and delicious buffet of musical choices! We are so grateful for your love and support and are indeed better for it! Amanda

Saturday in Montreal & Toronto’s Shameless Magazine!
Hello everyone, I’ve been in and out of town non stop the last 2 weeks and haven’t found the time to just sit down and write a proper email. I just got back late last night from an industry showcase in Toronto for NXNE and I’m just getting back into the swing of things today. Life has been really amazing and despite my feeling mildly overworked, I’ve been lucky enough to call two cities home with amazingly successful shows this month in both Montreal and Toronto. Thank you all for your amazing support and energy. I’m looking forward to summer unfolding in all its awesomeness.
Our latest Montreal show at Cabaret was really special and though I am still waiting on pictures and footage, I’ve been told it turned out really well. I’ll be sure to post it and let you know when it’s up!
I am also very pleased to invite you to a short Montreal performance we will be giving at Il Motore in support of Nadia & the Tchotchkes.

I recently did an interview with Shameless Magazine based out of Toronto. Shameless is a wonderful ladies mag and web blog. For those of you interested in reading the interview, you can, here is the link to it:
There’s also footage courtesy of Mark Youhanan from our recent show in Toronto at the Rivoli:
I’ll be in touch again soon with fun photos, web updates, videos and more. In the meantime, if you want to join me on twitter, I’ve joined the twitter community. I’m still getting the hang of it, but I’m liking it.
Lots of love and light,
Amanda
New show added - Toronto June 10th!
We are so excited to be coming back to Toronto for a performance at The Rivoli on June 10th!
Dear friends,
it’s been a long time since I wrote all of you. After our Europe gigs last December the band and I basically came home and took a big break. I’ve spent the first part of 2009 exercising a whole lot between yoga classes and running, and really been taking the time to develop new song ideas with members of the band. Last year was a real whirlwind and it felt good to take a step back, breath, and reboot! So much happened and now that I’ve had a chance to process it, I find myself reveling in how fortunate I’ve been to lead the life I lead and meet so many amazing people in the process. I am so grateful to be surrounded by many talented people so generous with themselves, they make it possible for me to share myself and my art with others. I can only hope that things will continue to grow as they have and that we can move forward with more opportunities that will allow us to continue doing what we love whether on a very modest or grand scale. I hope you’ll continue to ride the proverbial train with us.
There is lots coming up and so I thought the first thing to mention would be our next big hometown show here in Montreal. Expect to hear many new songs in this full band performance! It will be Friday, June 5th at the Cabaret du Musee Juste Pour Rire. Tickets are on sale at www.admission.com and you can also pick them up at the Cabaret Box Office located at 2111 Saint Laurent corner Sherbrooke Street.

To stay more connected, we’ve begun a YouTube channel of sorts. You’ll be able to see and hear exclusive recordings, footage and many mini interviews with a lot of the wonderful people we’ve had a chance to work with. It’ll be a fun little informal way for us to share information with you about people we think are awesome and worth knowing more about. So please, do return to the page often and feel free to send us your remarks! An introductory clip from yours truly will be coming soon, I just have to film it first, but until then, please enjoy a live off the floor recording we recently did at Montreal’s amazing Studio Victor! There are live recordings of songs from both our eps “Red Rows” & “Wine Flows”

Loads of love, Amanda xo
